October 8th, 2010

Press Release EDITED – [Name of The Online Forum omitted].  visit the Dune Whore website to see original press release.

After the 12th Annual Sand Sports Super Show on September 17th, 18th, and 19th of 2010, a debate about DWI Clothing was sparked through an online forum. Only a few days after the thread started, there were over 20,000 views and 200 comments on this topic. All this began as a member of [The Online forum] posted a picture of the logo and started an online argument that is still festering. Some members of [The Online Forum] have gone as far as creating home-made videos to express their opinions on the topic.

[The Online Forums] are popular cyber hang out for many Sand Sports enthusiasts. They have a forum and member’s can create a personal page much like Myspace.com. Members share pictures, mechanical advice, as well as their opinions on this site. There are several other sections as well to buy and sell: sand cars, trophy trucks, quads/ATV’s, dirt bikes, and other off-road vehicles. [The Online Forum] averages over 4,000 visits every month and has thousands of members. In one week, the forum receives 1,200 new threads and 3,900 new posts.

The Dune Whore, Inc. controversy began with the following post titled, “Did Anybody Else Find This Tasteless At The SSSS (Sand Sports Super Show),” [online name omitted]

“I try to keep an open mind. But, this vendor was crass at best. Anybody else think this one was over the line? Photo is not that good – but it is spread eagle girl as the icon. Classy.”

After a few days of feuding, the admin of [The Online forum] moved the thread to a password protected (password is noted right on the title of this thread as [edited]) area of the forum titled, “Politically Incorrect.” There were several videos created in response to the debate. “It just goes to show you how far social media has come,” says Melissa DeWeese, President of DWI Clothing, “The Monday after the show, we noticed an unusual amount of traffic coming from [The Online Forum] I then clicked on the link and saw everyone’s comments. We found all the feedback to be very useful and quite frankly, entertaining! I never thought people would make videos about our company and have so much fun doing it.” In less than one days time, DWI Clothing knew the opinions of those who had seen their product at the Sand Sports Super Show. ‘…It’s just incredible,” Melissa adds.

DWI Clothing has no plans on changing their brand. “It is meant to be funny and fun. We don’t want to market to kids,” Melissa states, “We know this humor is not appropriate for all ages.”

Company Profile:
The phrase “Dunewhore” came about one early morning at Glamis Dunes, wash 6 to be exact, at round 8 am during a Thanksgiving weekend. I woke up to the sound of sand rails, side by sides, and ATV’s, excited for another great day of dunning. I walked out of the trailer to be over whelmed with super hot chicks all dressed up to go play in the dunes. It was my first trip to Glamis needless to say. My wife and her friend joined me outside the trailer and both were talking with one another while I sat there quietly gazing at the views. My wife said, “Are you looking at that Dunewhore?” It wasn’t until around two years later that we decided to turn that phrase into our company name…

Now, Dunewhore/DWI Clothing offers off road apparel & novelty items. We have a unique logo & name; we are proud of it. DWI has a sense of humor and if you do, you will like our products. We are considered offensive in some circles. Our brand is fun and unconventional. We love off roading and love to laugh.
